National Express is celebrating after striking gold with the Royal Society of Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for demonstrating high health and safety standards.
The UK’s largest coach operator has been awarded the RoSPA Fleet Safety Gold Award for working hard to ensure its drivers and customers get home safely to their families at the end of every working day.
Organisations receiving a RoSPA Award are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practice. To reach gold standard National Express had to demonstrate an outstanding safety performance underpinned by well-developed occupational health and safety management systems.
Chris Hardy, managing director of National Express UK Coach, said: “Health and Safety is at the heart of everything we do at National Express. We are continuously seeking to improve our safety standards and reduce risk, and have a strong track record of introducing industry-leading safety innovations on our vehicles to enable us to do this.”
Investment in safety technology on all National Express coaches includes:
- Lytx DriveCam - a video capture system device mounted in the vehicle’s windscreen, which continuously analyses traffic activity and the drivers' actions. When an event is triggered the device captures 12 seconds of video and audio inside and outside of the vehicle.
- Cyclear - an audible warning system to notify cyclists when the coach is about to turn.
- Guardian by Seeing Machines - an innovative onboard fatigue and distraction monitoring technology.
“This award is a real testament to the hard work and dedication of our drivers and operational teams who keep us on the road,” added Chris.
Julia Small, RoSPA’s achievements director, said: “The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest-running of its kind in the UK, but it receives entries from organisations across the globe, making it one of the most sought-after achievement awards for health and safety worldwide.
“RoSPA is very proud of the achievements of its entrants, and with this award we recognise the best of the best, those organisations that have gone the extra mile, raising the bar for the delivery of safety in the workplace.”
